The initiative promoted by partners of the Ecotan tanning project by Silvateam has allowed brands to get a glimpse of the quality and variety of this innovative class of leather.

In April 2021, at Hashtag Florence’s beautiful showroom in Santa Croce sull’Arno, Italy, four Tuscan tanneries presented their collections to the style offices of fashion brands at the first Ecotan Openhouse. The event gave the participants the opportunity to discover the innovative tanning system applied to different raw materials for the creation of a wide range of leather articles, such as footwear, bags, belts, leather goods, and clothing.

Thanks to the Ecotan technology, it is possible to design recyclable, metal-free, and glutaraldehyde-free leathers made using natural tannins, biopolymers, and sustainable finishing products, safe for humans and the environment. Both finished articles and scraps from Ecotan leathers are designed to be bio-circular. In fact, through a process of acid hydrolysis, they return to nature as fertilisers for organic farming.
