Ecotan, a virtuous approach to tanning according to analyses conducted by ars tinctoria

In recent years, Ars Tinctoria has developed, together with researchers from the CNR and the National Institute of Optics in Florence, new methods for quantifying bio/fossil carbon proportions through radiocarbon measurement techniques. Since 2022 it has become the first private Italian laboratory, and one of the few in the world, to independently analyse radiocarbon.

Precisely for this reason, Silvateam decided to rely on Ars Tinctoria to analyse and evaluate the results of the Ecotan project, and in particular to study the degree of circularity of the articles developed with this innovative tanning technique.

Says Defeo: “Our analyses have shown that articles developed with Ecotan technology have a very high biomass-derived carbon content. All analysed samples register values above 85%, which demonstrates the high content of substances of natural origin of the raw materials involved in the Ecotan tanning processes”.
